Mireth Technology adds "Safe Place" safety feature and standards compliance to ShredIt for Windows - Version 5.0 released
Vancouver, BC, Oct 15, 2004 -- Mireth Technology Corp. has released version 5.0 of ShredIt for Windows, its computer privacy software that shreds instead of deletes data so it can't be recovered. Version 5.0 adds the "Safe Place" safety feature and standards compliance.
New in this release is the Safe Place (TM) feature which allows you to protect important documents from accidental shredding. For example, you could move your child's homework into a Safe Place folder so that it could not be accidentally shredded. Standards compliance has also been added, with the option to shred to Department of Defense 5220 standard, NSA standard or Gutmann standard.
We added Safe Place (TM) to ShredIt after receiving an email from a panicked father who had accidentally shredded his son's homework", said Donna Johnson, President of Mireth Technology. "We couldn't recover it, but we did add Safe Place to ShredIt to prevent such accidents in the future."
The need for ShredIt for Windows
Because throwing data in the recycle bin does not remove the file contents from the hard drive, the data can be recovered by someone else. Users who need to dispose of confidential data on an ongoing basis appreciate how easy ShredIt is to use - just drag the file on to the ShredIt icon and ShredIt will shred the data so it cant be recovered. Users who want to erase the contents of a hard drive before disposing of a computer can be confident that using ShredIt will accomplish the job. And ShredIt is cross-platform, available for both Windows and Macintosh.
Pricing and Availability
ShredIt for Windows is available for immediate download, or on CD, starting at $19.95. Registered users of previous versions of ShredIt for Windows can upgrade for free. Educational pricing and volume discounts are available. ShredIt for Windows runs on Windows 95 through XP. ShredIt is also available for Macintosh (OS 7 through OS X).
